When do I make the final selections to customize my reward(s) - leather color, pen style, wood choice, mod specs, engraving, etc?

After the project ends, we will send the post-project survey via BackerKit. This survey will gather your shipping information and all the specifics about your rewards. You’ll choose the leather color for your Aspen, make your mod(s) selection, customize your pen with the pen style and wood choice, add any personalized engraving instructions, and add any additional items to your order.

Can I add items to my pledge that aren't included in one of the reward packages?

Yep! You can add any of the individual items from the project as an add-on to your Kickstarter order. You’ll also have the chance to add any of the individual items in our reward packages to your order after the project closes in the BackerKit survey. All add-ons will be at the Kickstarter pricing. We also offer our Kickstarter backers great deals on many of our previous Kickstarter rewards as add-ons in the BackerKit survey. :)

When will my rewards ship?

After the project ends, Kickstarter allows two weeks to process all the payments and transfer the funds. Once we receive the project funds, we send the post-project surveys via BackerKit. We allow about a week for backers to complete their surveys so we can get an accurate assessment of everyone’s final selections. Then we place our orders for the materials. Most of our materials arrive to us within 2-3 weeks, and we begin production.

When will I be charged for shipping?

We will ask you for your shipping address in the post-project survey and collect shipping fees then. Estimated shipping rates based on the weight of one Aspen case:

USPS Ground Advantage to US: $8-12 USPS Global Post Standard to CA, GB & EU: $22-26 AU, NZ, and the rest of the world: $28-32

Shipping is not included in the reward prices.

What shipping service will be used to ship my reward(s)?

We ship via USPS. For US-based backers that means your package will be delivered to your mailbox by your mail person. For international backers that means that our US Postal Service gets the package to your country and then your local post delivers to you.

If USPS or your local post is not a good option for you for whatever reason, please shoot us a message at [email protected] and we can arrange alternative shipping. We can also ship via UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Additional fees may apply.

Will international backers be charged customs duties and taxes?

That depends on the cost of the reward and the laws in your specific country. We cannot mark your reward as “gift” to avoid any fees as this is against regulations and can result in significant fines for us. Please check your country’s specific guidelines before backing.

When is my card charged?

Your card will be charged when the project reaches its funding deadline. If our project does not reach its funding goal, your card is never charged.

Some backers may see a temporary authorization of funds at the time of pledging before a project has been successfully funded. Authorizations generally drop after a few days, but this process can vary depending on your financial institution. If you notice an authorization that doesn’t drop, we recommend that you contact your bank for more details about their authorization procedure.

Is it secure to pledge on Kickstarter?

Kickstarter uses Stripe as its payment partner. Stripe meets and exceeds the most stringent industry standards for security.

Kickstarter does not store full credit card numbers – only the last four digits and expiration date. Saving your payment details for future use is entirely optional.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
